Shaving your legs for the first time can be scary, because you don’t know what you’re doing! Even though it was years ago, I still remember when I first had to start shaving my legs — I didn’t really know what to do. That’s why I’ve decided to put together this guide for how to shave your legs.
If you’re a pre-teen or teenage girl, you’re probably thinking about wanting to shave your legs soon, but don’t know where to start or what to do.
(Parents: this can be great to read too so that you know what’s going through your daughter’s minds!)
Girls, here are some great tips for how to shave your legs:
Ask for advice
As awkward as you might think it is, ask your mom if she thinks you’re ready to start shaving your legs and if she could help you out. If you aren’t close with your mom or she isn’t in your life, that’s okay! Find another woman in your life that you look up to, like a grandmother, older sister, aunt, or just any woman in your life that you feel close to.
These women have all been in the exact same boat as you are, no matter how long ago it was. They have also been shaving their own legs for years now. They’re sure to be able to give you some tips and tricks of shaving!
Don’t give into peer pressure
Just because your friends are shaving, doesn’t mean you have to, too. If you aren’t comfortable with shaving yet, then don’t do it! There’s no set age that you have to start shaving.
“What’s the right age to start shaving?”
There truly isn’t a set age to start shaving! Some girls start shaving at age 12, others at 15… some girls don’t shave at all. It’s a personal preference. If you’re feeling self-conscious about your leg hair, it’s probably okay to want to shave it off. As long as you will feel more confident and comfortable after shaving, it’s probably safe to say that you’re ready to shave.
Don’t believe shaving myths
There are so many shaving myths out there that just aren’t true. From using a family member’s razor, to new razor blades causing more cuts, there are many things out there that people say about shaving that you really shouldn’t listen to. Do some research before trusting something you hear from other people.
Get quality razors
It’s important to buy high-quality razors for women! Whether you prefer replaceable razor heads or disposable razors, make sure they’re of high-quality. This is something that your mom or other loved one can probably give you some advice on!
Replace your razor blades frequently
It is so important to be changing your razor blades on a regular basis. Some people say that new razors give them more cuts, but the opposite is actually true. When you’re shaving with a dull razor, you’re pressing down so much harder on your skin. An old, dull razor isn’t something safe to be using.
The easiest way to make sure that you’re replacing your razor blades regularly enough is by purchasing a razor subscription.
Prep your skin before shaving
Be sure to take a warm shower or bath before shaving. This will soften your skin and hair, making it so much easier to shave! Also be sure to use a shave gel so that the razor can more easily glide over your skin.
