Makeup and vegan lovers rejoice: Hourglass Cosmetics has announced plans to go 100% vegan!
Fans of the brand know that Hourglass Cosmetics already offers many products that are vegan. For example, their Ambient Lighting Palette is made cruelty-free and without any animal byproducts.
Hourglass Cosmetics is taking this commitment one step further, and has announced that their entire product lineup will be completely vegan by 2020. They made the announcement on Nov. 1, World Vegan Day.
Additionally, the announced a new product: a vegan leather makeup clutch. The clutch will be sold both online and in their flagship store. 100% of proceeds from the sales of this product will be going to the Nonhuman Rights Project, who works on legally getting fundamental rights for nonhuman animals.
To become completely vegan, the brand is going to eliminate animal-derived ingredients, such as beeswax, lanolin (wax derived from sheepskin), and carmine (dye from beetles’ wings), from its products.
The CEO, Carisa Janes, has said that they are consulting with experts in the bio-tech industry on new ingredients that won’t lower quality.
The price range of the products will not change once they go vegan.
Being a luxury brand, Hourglass Cosmetics is stepping ahead of the game by going completely vegan. Middle-market companies have already launched vegan products or announced plans to go vegan, like It Cosmetics, Nailberry, Kat Von D, and Cover FX.
It may be two years away from being in full effect, but this is a huge step for vegan makeup. What do you think about the announcement?
